Risks of high blood pressure from drinking coffee

There is a saying ‘you can never have too much of a good thing’. This is not true; too much of anything has risks. For example, being a vegetarian is considered healthy, but there is a risk of bone loss; fruits are great and have antioxidants but the excess sugar can affect our teeth; fish is great for the heart, but there is a risk of ingesting mercury.

Likewise, when you indulge in drinking many cups of coffee a day, it could affect your overall health and eventually lead to high blood pressure. Yes, I said indulge. Research has found coffee drinkers consume alcohol more than the average non-coffee-drinker. A drink or two of alcohol can lessen stress, but too much alcohol in increases blood pressure which can damage the heart.

There are studies that also show coffee drinkers tend to smoke more cigarettes. The nicotine in cigarettes hardens the arteries and constricts blood flow the heart to work harder resulting in high blood pressure.

However, there is research that has found drinking coffee definitely lowers the risk of type 2 diabetes!

The lesson to be learned from all the studies about coffee is that what is best for your health is everything in moderation.
